"Spleen and Ideal" is the second studio album by Dead Can Dance, and it spearheaded the group's sonic transition from their Post-Punk and Gothic Rock-influenced roots towards a Neoclassical Dark Wave style.
On their eponymous debut album, originally released in 1984, Dead Can Dance successfully harnessed a “bewitching barrage of sounds, layering grinding guitars and even a dulcimer-like yang chin over a taut wash of percussion.
"Garden of the Arcane Delights" is Dead Can Dance's only EP. Originally released in 1984, it acted as a bridge between the band's first two albums. This edition includes also both of the sessions held for John Peel, recorded in 1983 and 1984.
The title "Into The Labyrinth" is a reference to the Greek legend of Theseus going into the Labyrinth to slay the Minotaur. It came when Perry and Gerrard had embarked on separate personal paths, now writing their songs independent of one another.
