A musical leap of faith for Xasthur: mastermind, multi-instrumentalist, and singer Scott Conner abandoned Black Metal as a form of musical expression, and turned to something stylistically rather comparable to Acid Folk and Neofolk instead.
Originally an EP, "Suicide in Dark Serenity" is regarded by many critics and followers of Xasthur alike as a true highlight and seminal milestone of the US Black Metal scene. This edition adds a rehearsal version of the track 'Nocturnal Poisoning'.
"The Funeral of Being" delved further down the harsh, raw, frightening, and yet also melancholic path that set Xasthur apart from most of the US Black Metal scene, yet it is still widely held to constitute a cornerstone in the scene.
A trip through groovy Ambient tunes with surrealistic atmospheres to chaotic soundscapes towards slower, more experimental pieces which however form an intimate coexistence. Deeply fractured sonic mutations build up their own morphogenic aesthetics.
