“Revolutions” is the debut album for Aenima, easily the most promising act in the Portuguese scene at the moment, who recently made their live debut abroad with two performances at the M’era Luna Festival in Germany. The album introduces a striking blend between hypnotic electronic ambiances, sensual percussions, banshee-like female vocals, twinkling guitars with occasional harsher, driving tones and moving bass lines that falls strangely somewhere in between The Gathering’s most experimental moments on “Mandylion” and Cocteau Twins’ subtle grace, richly imbued with a medieval flavouring that adds a magic touch to it all. Aenima’s music envelops the listener into a serene and comforting shroud, weaved out of mysterious melodies and moods, where Carmen’s voice comes to blend in as yet another instrument, sometimes like a far out cry from somewhere unreachable, much like the legendary sirens that lured seamen into damnation, and at others like a fair maiden carelessly chanting in her walks through the woods…
